So can you dance?

After two pinays (Jasmine and Camile) made it to the finals of American Idol and Sharon 'Czar' Galvez almost made it on the 4th season, there's another Fox show that made the filipino community invading the fox forums once more.

If AI is a singing competition, 'So you think you can dance?' is all about dancing. They have to be good on all types of dancing, whether jazz, hiphop, break dance, salsa, mambo etc. Two out of eight male contestants are pinoys, namely Allan Frias (half black) and Ryan Conferido. Melody Lacayanga, a proud pinay, is said to be the best dancer among the girls but too bad she picked a hiphop (she's more of a jazz dancer) theme and now she's in the bottom 3. For pinoys out there, vote for Melody, 1-888-TEMPO-03.

BBC's World's World Challenge

Vote for the Philippine Coconut Geotextile Industry (Coconet) at http://www.theworldchallenge.co.uk/vote.php. It has been chosen as one of the 12 finalists in Newsweek and BBC's (British Broadcasting Corporation) World's World Challenge. A documentary about Coconet Industry will be shown on the BBC World cable channel on September 24 and will also be featured in the August 29 special issue of Newsweek.

Temple of God

In front of the Philippine Consulate General Office in L.A. is the beautiful St. Basil Church. I went inside and felt an inner peace.

Passport Renewal

I went to the Philippine *Embassy Consulate General Office in Wilshire, Los Angeles this morning to claim my new passport. I filed for a new one last week and they asked me to go after 2 days but I didn't have the time to pick it up. My passport expired last July 15 and I'll be travelling soon... to where? that will be in another post.

Nothing much changed between the my new and old passport. The biggest difference, aside from my picture (and hair) is they switched the personal data and the authorization thingie page. The personal data used to be at the back of the front cover of the passport but now it's in the first page of passport.

Another thing that caught my attention is the Limitation-Paktada page

Not that I have plans of travelling to Iraq in the future, but don't you think it's kinda unfair? =p

*My friend J corrected me when I said I went to the Philippine 'Embassy.' There's only one Philippine Embassy in the US and it's located at Washington DC. The offices in LA and in other states are called Consulate General. J, are you happy now? =p

Yet another case of mistaken ethnicity

... an addition to my 'No Habla Espanol' post... it happened few days ago.

Scene VIII:
Location: Omni Bus
What am I doing?: Going to Walmart
Talking to: An old caucasian lady

Lady: Are you an Indian?
Me:
OMG! Do I smell? *sniffing my shirt discreetly*...I smell ok. Did she mean american indian or bombay indian. I answered... No.
Lady: What are you?
Me: I'm from the Philippines.
Lady: Oh! I have a friend. She's a nurse. She's from the Philippines too.
Me: Cool.

Ending: She showed me her wallet pictures... and convincing me how pretty she was when she was a lot younger.
